Loved the historic charm of the hotel and the friendly staff. Visited the Subterranean Citadel in Verdun and the Mondial Center for Peace. Breakfast options were great.

The location was perfect for visiting the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, with plenty of amenities nearby like a petrol station, supermarket, cafes, bars, and bakeries. The young couple who run the hotel were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to ensure a wonderful stay. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent and affordable evening meal prepared by the owner. The room was immaculately clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The town of Varenne itself is steeped in history, with fascinating stories and landmarks to discover. our stay was mind-blowingly amazing and we can't wait to return!

incredibly clean and lovely old-fashioned French hotel. located directly opposite a beautiful historic church. got some great local tips from the friendly and helpful staff. thoroughly enjoyed the tasty local food at the restaurant.

Can't recommend highly enough.

The rooms at Hotel Du Grand Monarque in Varennes-en-Argonne were amazing! They had a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, which made it easy for me to catch up on my favorite shows. The private bathroom was a plus, and the free toiletries provided added a nice touch. I especially loved the double room with a seating area, perfect for relaxing after a long day of business meetings. The view from the room was also a great bonus, allowing me to appreciate the beautiful surroundings. Additionally, the wardrobe in the room provided ample space for all my belongings. With a desk included, it was convenient for me to get some work done during my stay.

Just a personal preference, but I found the private entrance in the twin room to be a little inconvenient. But I understand that some guests might enjoy the added privacy it provides.

The hotel was conveniently located near important historical sites and had a great restaurant. We were able to easily explore the World War One country and visit the American Cemetery. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and they did their best to restore the hotel beautifully.

The shower in our room had extremely hot water, which was a hazard. There were no instructions provided, so we had to be very careful not to scald ourselves.

Our stay at Hotel Du Grand Monarque was worth every penny. The room was cozy and comfortable, with a lovely view of the village church. The location was superb, with plenty of history to explore. The staff treated us like family, making our stay truly special.

The breakfast offerings could be improved, perhaps by adding more variety and options.

I recently stayed at Hotel Du Grand Monarque for three days during my visit to this delightful little town. The historic location, where Louis XVI was arrested, added a unique charm to my stay. The young couple who owns the hotel were incredibly friendly and created a welcoming atmosphere. The dinner and breakfast options were delicious, and the menu du jour was exceptional. The views from the hotel, situated opposite the church, were delightful. a wonderful experience!
